Reading data on SQL server in Informix - help

IDS 11.50.FC6 HPUX 11.31 BL870c Integrity server MS SQL server 2005 on w2k3r2 server A short time ago our developers needed the ability to pull data from our Informix database while in SQL server and then manipulate the data there. After a little bit of a struggle I managed to setup a "linked server" for them. They now need the opposite direction setup on our HPUX server running Informix. From Informix they need to read data on the SQL server in the same sql statement they accessing Informix tables. The only way I know how to do this would be to setup an external table in Informix. The IDS documentation I've found has lots of examples of DATAFILE (DISK:xxx) but the only DATEFILE (PIPE:/dev/tape) I found was to a tape drive and not to a network connection. Having never setup a network 'pipe' like this before and with only a general understanding of what needs to be done, I am unsure how to proceed. Does anyone know of any documentation on how to do this on HPUX system using IDS 11.50? Or is willing to share any cheat sheets they might use when doing a project like this? The only way to select data from a 'foreign' server in Informix is to buy the Informix Enterprise Gateway which will let you do the same kinds of links that SQL Server does. Another options would be to write your own User Defined Tables using the UDT interface. I don't think you can make it work using EXTERNAL TABLES and pipes. Art Art S. Thanks Art, Not what I wanted to hear, but it is what it is. I will pass this information on to the developer's team manager.
