A SMALL PROBLEM-I HOPE

Hello I wonder if you can help me: Error number -243 could not position within a table table-name. It says that the database server is unable to set the file position to paticular row within the file representing a table. How do I locate the ISAM error code? The solution is to run bcheck or secheck. This may seem simple to most of you, but this is a new area for me, so I would appreciate any help that you can offer based in the knowledge that my insight into Informix is limited!
