Recommendations on LUN size

Does anyone have any thoughts on sizing LUNS in a SAN for an Informix database? I am going to be converting to new servers later this year and have the opportunity to design everything from scratch. I know it used to be more, small LUNS was better to increase spindle count, but I don't know if that still applies with today's SANS (we have a Clariion.) We currently use 5 GB LUNS, but I'm wondering if there is a best practice guideline for something different. You just have to balance the need for simplicity (read fewer bigger chunks) with checkpoint flush efficiency which affects data safety (so more chunks). At checkpoint time the engine assigns one flusher per chunk, so the more chunks (up to a point of course) the faster data gets to disk. - How many dbspaces do you have now? - on how many disks? - are any of them being hit particularly hard with I/O? - how many tables? - which Clariion and what size disks? - IDS version and OS version? - What's air-speed velocity of a fully-laden swallow? (sorry!)
