Translating with DrWatson… this can take a few seconds the first time.
This is a genuine, complex translation. DrWatson protects commands, error codes, and log output while naturally translating the surrounding text. It’s translated once and saved.
Hi, we have a new hp-ux machine and are moving the database engine to it.
I'd like to know if I can cheat the install process cleanly by copying the
/informix dir to the new machine. IDS 7.x and old machine hp 11.00 new
machine hp 11.11
I assume I 'should' perform all the steps necessary for the install
including all the 4gl and runtime, but was hoping that a quick tar would
suffice. Then I'd just require the correct links and export and import of
the databases.
Thanks in advance,
Doug

We did this quite a bit ago . . . . the recommended approach was to do
the install, but we TARred up $INFORMIXDIR and reestablished the links
to /usr/lib. We didn't have any memorable issues . . . . . but we
were re-creating a test system as well.
If your engine versions are the same and your logical layout is the
same, then consider doing a restore to the 'new' system using ontape.
May save some time as well.
