In article <1994Jun1.091553.13156@duquesne.ie> you write: } Hi there, } } Hopefully someone can give me some help on this. I'm using ACE ReportWriter } to generate some ASCII files for importing into another system. I've set it } up to prompt for some variables depending on what is needed, and would like } also to either prompt for the output filename, or combine the variables } obtained to a string representing what the output file contains. } Several years I wrote a shell script called "dboutput". All my ACE reports had the following line: REPORT TO PIPE "dboutput reportname" where "reportname" was the name of the ACE report. The shell script consisted of nothing more than a large case statement that looked at $1 and executed an lp, cat, mail, or whatever command. Because it was a shell script, I could read an environment variable to determine what to pass off to "lp -d".
