Re: Shutdown a instance from time to time ???

There's no real reason for bouncing the engine from time once it is tuned correctly. However, my personal opinion is that the entine system, os and all should be restarted from scratch on a periodic basis, simply to ensure that the operations staff "can" restart the system if they need to. Too often we make minor changes that do not have any effect on the running system, but play havoc when boot the system from scratch. (I'll never forget what happened the last time I changed /etc/rc!!) The same thing can happen to the engine. If we make a good record of our changes and then bounce the engine, we have a much better idea why the system would not come up correctly. I don't think waiting for the next power hit six months after making system changes is a good time to discover "OOPS!" Anyway --- these are simply my opinions.
