Q: Level0 & Level1 bkup
Posted in 1998
Dear Sanjeev, Informix Online provides three different levels of archiving. They are referred to as level-0,level-1 and level-2 archives. A level-0 archive contains a copy of all pages in a online database. A level-1 archive contains a copy of all the pages of a online database that has changed since the last level-0 archive taken. A level-2 archive contains a copy of all the pages of a online database that has changed since the last level-1 or level-0 archive. How you will take your archive that depends upon various factors, i.e., the size of database, how often the database has getting changed, the criticality of database. As par your database you can schedule level-0 on fortnight basis, level-1 once in a week and rest of the days take level-2 archive. I was having dialouges with some Oracle DBA, they told me that in Oracle it keep the bit flag for modified pages. So if you want Level1 bakup, server only look for modified pages and make process faster. In Informix how it goes? As per my edjucation it scan the full data page and it consider the timestamp factor for taking bakup. In brief it scan all the data pages, even for taking Level1 backup. Please correct me. And tell me that how it implement Level1 & Level2 backup and why it take same amount of time. Thank you very much. Sanjeev _________________________________________________________ DO YOU YAHOO!?
