How does Informix deal with DHCP? We are currently running New Era v = 2.x- 3.0 on Windows 3.1 connecting to HPUX 9.x on 9000-I70 via Banyan = Vines network. (Onet tcp-ip stack)=20 We are migrating to Win95 and NT utilizing DNS/DHCP with OnNet32. =20 I have connectivity with static IP addressing but am wondering about = DHCP. The flow the way I understand it follows: 1. I-Net (oops I-Connect) makes a call to the tcp-ip and receives host = address 2. I-Net requests a connection from the UNIX host giving UNIX the IP = address of the client 3. UNIX verifies existence of the IP address in the UNIX host table. (Is = this a security call by UNIX or Informix software???) 4. Socket connection established. If DHCP is possibly changing IP addresses/PC on a session basis, the = only way I can see this working is if all IP addresses are in the host = table where UNIX can verify them, whether it is the DHCP server or UNIX = host file. Can Informix verify the IP address via the DHCP server before it gets to = UNIX? My UNIX system administrator does not want to put all of the IP = addresses in the hosts file due to "security" reasons. She also feels = that we cannot implement DHCP until we go to HPUX 10.2. =20 Any help/corrections here would be GREATLY appreciated. It is not a = show stopper since we can set aside a block of IP's for static = addressings and it is not a managment issue for me, but it is really = driving me crazy. THANKS=20 dtaylor@octa.net
