Hocus Pocus

OTC in what appears to be a drunken stupor, has said something that is important to address. Perhaps one of his "insiders" spiked his cool- aid with a toxic blue mixture? We'll never know until the lab results are back and pray that the rabbit lives.... Seriously, OTC is saying "I've met with some of the new guys, so lets give them a chance..." But that's the thing. IBM shuffles people around so no concrete changes can occur unless they come from the top. Here we are, at the end of 2008, meaning that Ambush has had almost 3 years to get a handle on his business. Since he represents IM, IDS is one of his core products. Perhaps the fact that Lotus's products are now relegated to niche products is a clear indication that we should cut the senior exec some slack. After all, 3 years to get a handle on his products and their sales numbers and potential? Only a CEO caliber person can do it in less time. But while certain people shift in and out of focus, there are several people who have been around in senior positions. So what you have is that you constantly get the run around. "No that's not my job anymore, its been handed to the new guy, so lets give him some time to get his sea legs...." "Oh that was' XXX's problem. He's been moved over to Lotus, so we're transitioning his work and it will take some time, please be patient...." So sorry, but its not just the benchmark. Oh yeah, I've heard rumors that they are now incenting the DB2 IT Specialists to get certified on IDS. Here's an idea. Use the same incentive that was used on Informix IT specialists. Learn DB2, or face the facts that when it comes time to reduce head count, you're on the short list. Anyone remember Charlie Ills? ;-) But I digress. IBM says one thing, then hocus pocus, watch the person who made the statement disappear and watch the work not getting done. This is what happens when clowns play with magic. -G

Was there one?
Actually this was in response to the clown's misunderstanding of IBM's business side of the shop. And how or why things don't change within IBM. If you want to answer a technical issue, there's this other thread where I was asking about the internals of spatial queries that dealt with Oracle, IDS, and DB2. There the issue is applying an index to a collection which is a subset of the initial table. But I don't know if you can answer a part of that one. Can you? Do you know anything about what happens in a query and how datablades come in to play? Can you still apply the underlying index of the table to a subset of the data already filtered by an earlier part of the query? -G > From: theBP@Usenet-News.Net> Subject: Re: Hocus Pocus> Date: Fri, 10 Oct 2008 14:53:03 +0100> To: informix-list@iiug.org> > Ian Michael Gumby wrote:> > OTC in what appears to be a drunken stupor, has said something that is> > important to address.
