Yes, I know, if you're using 5.0 engine >you can ONLY be using 4.1,. But, for as long as I've heard about 5.0, >I've heard "rumored" problems. I'm not trying to point fingers: I'm dyed-in-the-wool Informix. >But...my client is still screaming that our product doesn't work. > > Anybody know anything???? > >- Corinne > We have discovered that in using either 5.00 or 5.01 ONLINE and 4.1 RDS there are definate problems. The ones we encountered had mostly to do with accessing databases on different hosts... We were able to fix our problem by using c4gl to create c-compiled executables instead of using the RDS p-code and the runner, which is a good idea for production systems anyway. In other words, the same program that would NOT run using the runner DID run after being c-compiled. A word of caution though... RDS is very forgiving on both variable initialization and conversion between types. If you do c-compile your programs, you should check them to make sure that all variables are initialized, and that you're not passing an INTEGER variable to a function expecting a CHAR, or anything silly like that. If this option is available to you, I would suggest you try it. If not, I would strongly consider making it an option.
