We need to connect to Informix Databases (IDS.2000) on Unix and Linux box from Windows NT Clients via ODBC. Newest informix Client SDK 2.40 is shipped only with Informix ODBC 3.31. Earlier releases included Intersolv 3.11, too. I also tried Merant 3.50 which is an development of Intersolv 3.11. All these ODBC drivers produce several errors either with our application or with MS-Access. We would be very happy if somebody could give us answers to following questions: - What can we do with following errors (Informix ODBC 3.30 and 3.31): CaMain d9:122 ENTER SQLPrepare HSTMT 0x019d3670 UCHAR * 0x0012e120 [ -3] "SELECT * FROM TRSYSTEM WHERE HERSTELLERSYSTEM = ? FOR UPDATE OF herstellersystem ORDER BY herstellersystem\\ 0" SDWORD -3 CaMain d9:122 EXIT SQLPrepare with return code -1 (SQL_ERROR) HSTMT 0x019d3670 UCHAR * 0x0012e120 [ -3] "SELECT * FROM TRSYSTEM WHERE HERSTELLERSYSTEM = ? FOR UPDATE OF herstellersystem ORDER BY herstellersystem\\ 0" SDWORD -3 DIAG [37000] [Informix][Informix ODBC Driver]General error.Syntax error (-11060) Is this a known bug? Can somebody report this to Informix. - Which driver is released for IDS.2000 (resp. long identifier) - Were can I get informations about known errors - We want to work with Informix ODBC 3.31, is this useful or not? - if I try to link a table with MS-Access and Intersolv 3.11 or Merant 3.50 I can connect to the database and I see the table but when choosing a table and clicking OK I receive reserved error -7746; unknown error message (Server IDS.2000) What does it mean? Please help... TIA Reinhard

Can somebody report this to Informix. Hello, This is not a bug. You query is incorrect, because "ORDER BY" can't be used with "FOR UPDATE". "Informix Guide to SQL Syntax" says: Syntax That is Incompatible with the FOR UPDATE Clause A SELECT statement that uses a FOR UPDATE clause must conform to the following restrictions: - The statement can select data from only one table. - The statement cannot include any aggregate functions. - The statement cannot include any of the following clauses or keywords: DISTINCT, FOR READ ONLY, GROUP BY, INTO TEMP, INTO EXTERNAL, ORDER BY, UNION, or UNIQUE.
