Translating with DrWatson… this can take a few seconds the first time.
This is a genuine, complex translation. DrWatson protects commands, error codes, and log output while naturally translating the surrounding text. It’s translated once and saved.
User on IDS 9.4 asked how to find when a table was last modified — first meaning the last insert/update/delete on a row, then clarifying he wanted the date of the last schema change (column added or dropped). Answers: for row-level timestamps, Informix doesn't track this unless you maintain it yourself via application code or triggers, or create the table WITH AUDIT/WITH CRCOLS. A suggestion to use systables.created was rejected, since 'created' isn't updated by in-place ALTERs. The only remaining source is the logical logs, which can be scanned with onlog or more readably with the infotrace tool. No single clean solution emerged.
Auto-generated by DrWatson from the posts below — may be imperfect; read the full thread.
Please disregard the question earlier...
I am referring to "if i can get the last change on the table schema".. i mean,
the date if a column is deleted or added.
Only if you are maintaining it yourself (application code or triggers) or
have added one of the WITH options to the table that maintain that time
such as WITH AUDIT or WITH CRCOLS.

That information is in the logical logs. You could poke around in there
going backwards until you find something. David Linthwait has a package,
infotrace (http://www.lintel.co.uk/infotrace/index.php) that can parse and
display logical log information in a more useful form than onlog.

Nope. Created is never updated. Certain non-in-place alters will actually
create a new table which would have a new created value, but most alters
are in-place. Witness:
> select created from systables where tabname = 'tt';
created
07/26/2011
1 row(s) retrieved.
> alter table tt add two integer;
Table altered.
> select created from systables where tabname = 'tt';
created
07/26/2011
1 row(s) retrieved.
