Re: Compaq tell me I cannot use hardware raid and raw disks with informix

My experiences with Compaq have been dismal. The short answer is Informix does not care how your disks are formatted. All it needs is a 'path' to the device file. Different systems do this differently, but they all have some grounding from UNIX (NT is a wannabe copycat). Raw files are certainly better, unfortunately you did not state your OS. Set up your disks seperately from the engine (but plan your design beforehand). The only thing to keep in mind is the dbspace size limits (2 gig on most systems). To create a 9 gig dbspace you will need to create the initial 2 g chunk and extend it to 9 gig. James Saville BellSouth Telecommunications, Inc.
