I can't answer for the legality of it -- someone would have to scrutinize the licences rather more carefully than I've ever done it. Technically, however, you can indeed access the same files, subject to one major proviso: C-ISAM files store the FLOAT and DOUBLE (SQL SMALLFLOAT and FLOAT) values in a machine dependent way.
