It is ok for up to 50 users and up to 2Gb of data. The main problems are:- a) Uses buffered I/O hence we lose transactions if UNIX fails. b) Does NOT rollback imcomplete transactions after UNIX failure. c) Cannot backup whilst people are using the system. d) Transaction log MUST be truncated IMMEDIATELY after the backup is done. This never seems to work for us and we always fail to rollforward. Online has all of these feature and can log to tape which is much better. >>Thanks. >>-- > >I got rid of my tie because of the curls. >>+------------------------------------------------------------+ >>| The expedient performance of a task with excessive concern | >>| regarding its durion-to-completion engenders a virtual | >>| certainty of diminished benefit therefrom. | >>| -- Benjamin Franklin (but he said it in 3 words) | >>+------------------------------------------------------------+ > > -- David Williams Maintainer of the Informix FAQ Primary site (Beta Version) http://www.smooth1.demon.co.uk Official site http://www.iiug.org/techinfo/faq/faq_top.html I see you standin', Standin' on your own, It's such a lonely place for you, For you to be If you need a shoulder, Or if you need a friend, I'll be here standing, Until the bitter end...
