backup using ontape

Hi,
Can we take more than one backup to the same tape, using ontape utility?
Also can we take backup of the logical logs to that same tape?
If so, how to move to the exact location on the tape while restoring? Is
it using 'mt' utility? Do we need to explicitely lable on the tape
after each backup using 'mt weof'?
Thanks,
Praveen.

No, and No. Informix needs a rewind device, and opens and closes the
tape, and all hell breaks lose one way or another, even if you manage to
futz the starting points with 'mt'.

No can do. Ditto for backing up the o/s on the same tape -- well,
actually, you could do that if you were extremely careful and left
Informix to use the initial section of the tape and the Unix archive the
end section of the tape, but it is not advisable.
If you have the spare disk space, archive to disk and then copy the
archive to tape along with anything else you want to back up.
