Adding a chunk
Posted in 2016
The poster asked whether a cooked (filesystem) chunk can be added to a dbspace whose existing chunk is raw, or whether all chunks must be the same type. Respondents agreed there is no problem: raw/cooked status is a per-chunk property, not a dbspace property, so a dbspace can freely mix raw and cooked chunks and the engine doesn't care. One contributor added they had even converted chunks from raw to cooked at a low level using dd with the engine down plus symbolic links. The poster accepted the answer.

Hi, Is there a problem if I add a cooked chunk to a raw dbspace ? Thanks in advance.
No. RAW or COOKED status is at the chunk level. I've done that in a pinch. Art Art S. A dbspace per. se. Is not raw or cooked, it just is. It can contain either raw, cooked or both types of chunk. You are right. My question is, can I add a cooked chunk to a raw chunk ? Or Both must be the same type. > El 30/06/2016, a las 2:21 p.m., Keith Simmons <smiley73@gmail.com> escribió: > > A dbspace per. se. Is not raw or cooked, it just is. You can add chunks of any type to a dbspace, we even converted chunks low level from raw to cooked using dd (with engine down and later setting some symbolic links).
