Colorado User Group Meeting - May 17
Posted in 1996
The next Informix User Group of Colorado meeting will be held on May 17th at Evolving Systems, Inc. "The Future is Now" is the theme of this meeting and we have a great line up of topics and speakers. 8:00am Registration Coffee & Donuts 8:30am Illustra 10:00am Steve Sommer, Vice President of Marketing, Informix Software, Inc. 11:30am Lunch (on your own) 12:30pm Metacube 2:00pm Informix Certification Program Technical Round Tables Illustra is the new object database recently purchased by Informix. Scott Simmons of Illustra will be speaking about and demonstrating the Illustra object database technology for us. This technology will allow you to incorporate any types of objects into your database. Uses of this technology include world wide web, geopgraphic information, and other visually oriented information. Unlike BLOB's, the Illustra DataBlades will allow you to search on the contents of your objects. The Informix and Illustra merger will result in a product called The Universal Server in December of 1996. Until that point, Informix is offering a tool kit to allow you to start taking advantage of the object technology sooner. Steve Sommer, Vice President of Marketing, Informix Software, Inc. is flying out from corporate headquaters to talk with our user group about new Informix technologies and product futures. This is an ideal session to attend to get information you can use in planning current and future products. This is an excellent opportunity to get and give feedback to one of Informix's top executives. The Informix Metacube product, a member of the decision system support family is helping businesses turn their corporate data into valuable information so they are able to make better business decisions. Sue Carter of Informix, and Amne Livingston of Berger and Company, will present Metacube running against an Informix engine. Two important components of Metacube's product to be demonstrated are: Warehouse Manager, a graphical tool that is used to define and maintain the "Metadata" layer of the model; and Explorer, an ad-hoc query tool designed for end-users to perform custom queries, generate graphical reports, drill up and drill down capabilities, export to a datamart as well as provide interconnectivity to common desktop productivity applications. The new Informix Certification Program has been a topic of major interest to many Informix professionals. This program involves taking a test or series of tests in a specific category. If you pass the tests, you become an Informix Certified Professional for that category. An Informix representative will be presenting information about this program and will be available to answer your questions. As the finale to our day, we will be holding a Technical Round Table. This will give you the opportunity to discuss technical issues with and ask questions of other Informix users. If you did not purchase or renew your membership at the time of the annual training meeting, your membership is now due. Membership applications are enclosed in this newsletter. Thank you to Evolving Systems, Inc, once again, for donating a location for our meeting.
