Informix abandoning DEC?

We just signed an agreement to purchase a business software system based on Informix Workgroup Server engine. Just ordered a DEC AlphaServer to run it on. Last week everything was great. This week software company informs me that their software won't run on Digital Unix on an Alpha Server. Says Informix has some bug that causes problems with Workgroup Server Informix. Says we must upgrade to top-of-line Informix Online product for much more money. Says Informix just announced internally that it won't be supporting the lower-end database product on Digital Alpha machines. Says the best option is to spend much more money on Online. Says Informix probably moving out of Workgroup Server lower-end product on all platforms in future. Says spend more money on Online database product. Says Informix rep says sorry and refers to Informix's right to change its marketing and product line anytime without notice. Some answer, huh? Does anyone know anything about this...any facts?
