As far as I know, if you used the DATE data-type you shouldn't get such problems. Informix engines record the DATE information as an integer value corresponding to the number of days the stored date value is from December 31, 1899. Since the INTEGER data type can go up to 2.147 billion (correct me if I'm wrong) then the system should be able to store dates well into the 25th century. If, on the other hand, the programs implemented dates using the CHAR data type (in COBOL style) then you have some work to do. I'm not sure if you can convert directly from CHAR dates to INTEGER dates. Perhaps someone else knows? Perhaps you could clarify what you mean by "... the year 2000 rolls over to 1900 ..."
