Blocked:CKPT
Posted in 2008
A user on IDS 11.10.FC2W3 (Solaris 10) saw the server stuck in "Blocked:CKPT" for hours during an HPL import, with the checkpoint thread waiting in wait4critex; adding CPU VPs (4 to 8) made no difference. Art Kagel said CPU VPs were irrelevant and pointed to logical logs, but onstat -l showed all logs already backed up (LTAPEDEV=/dev/null), so that wasn't the cause. The online.log only showed RAW-to-STANDARD partition conversion warnings, prompting advice to take a level-0 (even fake, onbar -b -F) backup. Art concluded that shouldn't block a checkpoint and advised contacting IBM support. No resolution is recorded in the thread.

Hello
IDS 11.10.FC2W3 on solaris 10
I was hoping not to see Blocked:CKPT with IDS 11.10.FC2 but....
Doing a import activity using HPL and for last 3 hrs seeing this Blocked:CKPT
VPCLASS cpu,num=4,max=4,noage ( i guess toooo less for a hectic import)
Here is the stack

Sure some thing is there in the critical section, but now what to do???
Should i wait for the checkpoint event to complete ( i guess it will complete
eventually).

Hello, Again the same issue , This time i have increased the number of CPU VP's to 8. but again facing this Blocked CKPT. Pls any advice would be helpfull.
Has nothing to do with CPU VPs. Are your logical logs being backed up
frequently enough? What does onstat -l show? Post the output if you are
not sure. Unless almost all of the logical logs have a 'B' in the flags
column, you need to run ontape -a or onbar -l to archive your logical logs
and free them for reuse.

As i am trying to import the data using HPL,got the following message in the
online.log for every table.
13:42:51 Warning : The partition '0x601b2a' for the 'testdb:"informix".tran_xl'
is converted from RAW to STANDARD type.
This table may not be fully restored in the case of server crash.
It is recommended to take a level-0 backup before you use or
modify the table in a transaction.
but this is the last message and since last 2 hrs no changes in the online.log
I read through it but nothing different than the above msg's and the usuall.
