We've been running a K420 for almost 2 years and have recently upgraded both HPUX and Informix DSA from 10.01 and 7.12.UC1 to 10.22 and 7.22.UC1 We're using RAID boxes from HP (raid 5). This environment has been pretty stable and an excellent performer. I have around 200 users and 50 gig of data space. Been a few bugs w/ 10.20 (HP has a problem w/ SED and regular expressions) and you must turn off both PDQPRIORITY and MAX_DSS (whatever the name is) to completely shut off DSS. Otherwise I was getting every online app users spawning 50 threads for small apps. Engine hung as we don't have (nor intend to have) many DSS users. Overall, we've found the K box to be excellent and the RAID really works. We've had a couple of disk failures and really just pulled them out and replaced them, hot. Backup onto DAT technology is pretty slow. Onarchive has a bug for multiple tapes so we were using ONTAPE. Backing up to DLT technology and reduced backup window from 25 hours to 6. Hope to soon use ONBAR and Legato's Networker to utilize tape management. Bob Stetzel rstetzel@holstein.com
