It's about 6 times slower. I assume you meant when you switched from running On-line locally to running On-line over a network using I-STAR. We are running the same type of system and have experienced EXCELLENT performance. Originally we had our database on a single SCO Unix system (DX-50) running On-line. Our performance suffered when we got a few people running big reports. Then we added a DX-66 SCO UNIX machine as a database server, moved our databases to it, and experienced a MAJOR performance improvement. Queries and reports ran 8 to 10 times faster in some cases. : Here's my question: : Does Informix NET runs faster? : Does Informix Relay runs faster? I believe that Relay is an integral part of NET now. We originally tried to use 4GL and I-NET on the front end and I-STAR and On-line on the database end, but for some reason there was an approximately one second delay for every request that went between the two. For example: If you were using Perform and were "Next"ing through a set of records, it would take a full second for the next record to show up. We now are running (hopefully temporarily) with 4GL, On-Line, I-STAR on the front end and On-Line and I-STAR on the back-end. The engine on the front end doesn't do anything besides pass everything through I-STAR to the database server, but it works much better that way. So in our experience Net seemed to have a problem with speed. (Any ideas as to our slow-downs with I-Net would be appreciated too.):-) : What's a cause of such slowdown ? A big question I have is what kind of machine do you have the engine running on? Is it busy doing something else that is taking away time from dealing with SQL requests? : Sincerely yours, : Michal Hobot : doctorq@sam.nask.com.pl -- Dale Van Voorst voorst@dordt.edu Computer Services postmaster@dordt.edu Dordt College Sioux Center, IA 51250 (712) 722-6299
