Translating with DrWatson… this can take a few seconds the first time.
This is a genuine, complex translation. DrWatson protects commands, error codes, and log output while naturally translating the surrounding text. It’s translated once and saved.

Petros,
It is important to set the blocksize for the archive tape device as high as
possible. We have it set at 1024 and can restore a 4 gig. database under 7.1 UC1
using ontape off of a 4 gig DDS-2 HP DAT drive in about 45 minutes. Note also that
our DAT drive has hardware compression enabled on the DAT istelf - in experiments
without compression on the DAT drive, backups and restores took about 5 times
longer.
One other point - after you restore your database you should oncheck the entire
database to insure that no corruption exists. Apparently there is a possible bug in
7.1 UC1 which can cause physical log pages to not flush properly to the archive
tape. The bug is evidenced by index corruption on restored databases as well as
engine crashes if logical logs are rolled forward on the restored data.
