How to use GLS ?
Posted in 1997
Hi all ! Up to now we did not use the NLS feature of Informix OnLine. Nevertheless, we work in german environment by using the following settings: LANG=De_DE.88591 LC_MONETARY=En LC_NUMERIC=En DBNLS=0 or unset This works fine so far. Umlaute are no problem. We are using the english number format (. as decimal seperator). With Informix 7.2 we have to use GLS (Informix told us). We made some first tests using Informix Connect 7.20.TE1 on client pc. Server database was a version 5.03. We set CLIENT_LOCALE to the appropriate german environment. The special problem is that we need a conversion from string datatypes (char or varchar) to number datatype (e.g. decimal) very often. In our test scenario a value "123,45" send from the client to server is converted to 12345. Online 5 seems to work with the english format. This is what we have expected. If we use Informix DS 7.2 configured for german language it should convert "123,45" in the right way (, as decimal seperator). But "123.45" will be converted to 12345. We have to prevent this conversion. How can we achieve this ? Or, how can we work around GLS so that we can use our current environment ? Any help is very much appreciated ! Please reply by email too ! Thanks in advance.
