Excessive DNS activity from Informix

We're running 7.3.something on HP-UX and our network admin complains about excessive DNS traffic from all the Informix systems. The traffic is a DNS query about the user's login, and seems to occur multiple times while the user is logged in, perhaps once for each DB query. Is there a configuration parameter for this, or perhaps a patch?
Change your DNS lookups to local first on the client boxes so they do not have to go to the DNS server. It's slowing you down anyway. Alternative: use IP addresses in the sqlhosts files instead of servernames eliminating the DNS lookups altogether. Art S. Thanks
for the responses. Most suggested having separate ports for
each instance of the database. That is the case already. Brett Geer
told me to check the session ID numbers for users to see if it changes
over time (onstat -u) and indeed it does. This would explain the large
number of DNS queries (200 databases, 100-200 users over 5 machines).
The programmer explained that senior users need access to several
databases at different times and thus as the users exit certain menus,
the connection is closed and a new one established once a query is
needed. The new connection validates the user's IP address through DNS.
So that explains the phenomena. It isn't a big load, perhaps 10-50 DNS
queries each minute. This will satisfy our network admins' curiosity.
Thanks.
