Restoring backup tape failure
Posted in 1997
When I try to restore a full backup from tape I get the following error: Restoring system control information, please wait ... Rootpath = /dev/db/rootdbs,Offset = 0 K, Size = 102400 K. Mismatch in configuration file. My TBCONFIG environmental variable is set to tbconfig and $INFORMIXDIR/etc/$TBCONFIG exists with the ROOTSIZE = 102400, ROOTOFFSET = 0. This is the configuration that was used when I made the archive I'm trying to restore (using tbtape -s, level 0 archive). When I looked at the partition table for rootdbs, however, it says the disk slice is 100.4MB. I'm assuming that the mismatch is between the disk slice size and the rootsize in the config file. However, I edited the ROOTSIZE value in $INFORMIXDIR/etc/tbconfig to 100400 K and I got the identical error. So I have a number of question. First, is the mismatch between the value in the tbconfig file and the actual disk partition size or is one of the players some information saved on the tape? Second, is there any way to get around the checking? Third, is there any way to read what's on the tape anyway -- like offloading it to flat files on the disk? Basically any help with this problem would be very appreciated. I'm running Informix-OnLine Version 5.01.UD3 under Solaris 2.3 on A Sun10. Please email any responses -- my news feed is shaky. Thanks again in advance. - Joe
