Sorry, I can log into the server -- I just can't log into the database. In
fact I can log into the Unix server with the informix login and password.
Then I run dbaccess and try to connect to the database ol_nisbc. Then when
I try to connect with the informix login and password (this is the only one
I know) it gives the following error:
The INFORMIXSERVER value is not listed in the sqlhost file or the Reg
I appreciate you help and look forward to hearing your advice!

AHAH! Now it all comes out. ;-)
The login and password are, as you tried, the same as the UNIX login
and password. That is not the problem. Either the sqlhosts file has
been damaged or is missing, the INFORMIXSERVER environment variable
is not properly set, or the sqlhosts file has a non-default name or
location in which case there are environment variables which need to
be set to direct dbaccess to the sqlhosts file (INFORMIXSQLHOSTS contains the
path to the file if different from the default of
$INFORMIXDIR/etc and SQLHOSTS the filename if not 'sqlhosts'). Just as
the error message says. Check the file $INFORMIXDIR/etc/sqlhosts,
$INFORMIXDIR/etc/$SQLHOSTS, $INFORMIXSQLHOSTS/sqlhosts, or
$INFORMIXSQLHOSTS/$SQLHOSTS and see if there is an entry for the server
named in $INFORMIXSERVER.

OK, all is well now. Part of the problem was that I didn't know where to
change the environmental variables so that they would be correct after a

.tcshrc file.

Dear All, Everything is working great now as said before. I just wanted to add a comment about newsgroups in general as I participte in newsgroups ranging from MCSE certifications to LiveWire and now to informix. I'm SO GRATEFUL that professionals are willing to help each other with this profession. It's one of the things that I enjoy most about my work. I hope that nobody takes the help given in these newsgroups for granted and I look forward to the day that I can be the one giving answers and helping others out =) I'm still receiving email on how to fix this problem even after it is fixed! You guys are great!!! Eric ets3@email.byu.edu
