In article <50lodc$g9r@cssun.mathcs.emory.edu>, Peter Tashkoff <TASHKOP@kiwi.co.nz> writes >With respect I think the point might >have been missed here. >The literature on DSA and the commonly >accepted wisdom has been that the >overhead in turning on mutex locking >when moving from one CPU to two could >well chew up any of the benefit gained >by the extra CPU. For this reason the >recommendation has been to run on >either one CPU with mutex locking >turned off, or a minimum of three. Rule number one in performance tuning.....knowledge/experience tell you what to try but actually trying it gives you the only real answer.. Try either way and use the best... Rule number two ....what else is running on the machine. E.g. sendmail on a UNIX machine waking up every 30 minutes only. if this happens in the middle of only one run in a series of performance test then it means your results are invalid.... -- David Williams
