oledb though an odbc provider

'Does anybody how to insert/update a byte field using ADO against an Informix IDS 9.40 UC2 with Informix Client 2.81 TC2? Reading and writing them through a IFX native oledb driver runs fine but under odbc oledb provider does not allow to insert or update them
