Help Archive Failed !!
Posted in 2006
An AIX user running IDS 7.31.UC7 reported ontape backups (to disk or tape) failing with "Archive API processing failed at line 241" plus an assert in mtex.c line 446 (MT_EX_OS, mem) that panicked and brought the server down. Suggestions: errno 28 meant /tmp filled by the shared-memory dump, so turn off DUMPSHMEM (poster said it was already 0, and the failure persisted to tape); reduce TAPEBLK; treat it as a likely known bug and send the af.* file to IBM Tech Support; and upgrade, since UC releases were unsupported and 7.31.UD8 contained many fixes. No confirmed resolution is recorded.

Error 28 means you have filled the filesystem. You are takes a complete dump
of shared memory. Do you really need it? set DUMPSHMEM to 0.

Hi,
this very much looks like a bug, probably known by now
(looking at the version you're using).
However, from the info provided I can't tell for sure, which one.
Switch off the SHMDUMP (as suggested by Colin Dawson),
get a readable af.* file and with that info contact IBM Informix
Tech Support.
They should then be able to sort out, what problem this is,
where it is fixed, etc.
Regards,
Martin

How about decrease TAPEBLK?
Snippet of onconfig.
TAPEBLK 32 # Tape block size (Kbytes)
Just my $0.02.

I don't know why it is failing but you might want to consider upgrading
since (I believe) the earliest supported version of 7.31 is now 7.31.UD1
- UC versions are no longer supported. The latest is 7.31.UD8 and there
are a considerable number of bug fixes in there from 7.31.UC7.
