Hi all. Does anyone have familiarity with both Informix and Oracle Triggers/Procedures? I'm interested, in very general terms, if it is very easy to convert from Informix Triggers/Procedures to Oracle Triggers/Procedures. Thanks!
IMHO as a long time ORACLE DBA enjoying my honeymoon with Informix that it's easier to go Informix to ORACLE. The big difference that I notice is if you have a lot of SPs returning rows or multiple sets of rows in Informix you'll need to rewrite them for ORACLE (this could be a lot of work if you've done much of this). Not to say that you can't get roughly the same function returning a cursor to the client, but it's definitely not the same thing. On the other hand, PL/SQL is a much more rich language than Informix's Procedural language so the guts of the SP can be translated in a straight forward way.
