Inet Password prob
Posted in 1998
I am converting a logon application from VB3 to 5. Logon dialog takes user name, password and environment (test, live, etc). Connections are made to Informix, foxpro and SQL Server, but I'm only having trouble making the Informix connection. The problem is the password. The previous version of the program (16 bit) takes info from logon dialog and generates a connection string. It doesn't include the password part, e.g MyConn = "ODBC;DSN=" + MyODBC_dsn + ";Hostname=" + Myhostname +";UID=" + Myuser + ";Service=" + Myservice + ";Database=" +Mydatabase Notice no password parameter is passed. Then a program called set501.exe is run which encrypts password (taken from a *'ed text box) and writes said password to c:\\windows\\informix.ini file. It encrypts the password exactly as setnet would do. I don't know where this program comes from. Inet is happy with this and connection is persistent and user never gets asked for a password again. However, setnet32 wants the password in the connection string. That's no problem, except I would really like to write out this password encrypted as setnet32 would encrypt it - both to this informix.ini file (needed for backward compatability with fox system) and to the relevant locations in the registry so that the user is not constantly being pestered for a password by Informix. So, has anyone seen this set501 prog before? It could be ours for all I know although I am verydubious that we would have Informiix's encryption source. I ported set501 to NT4 but it encrypts differently than before i.e. differently than setnet32. So, any 32 bit versions of set501 out there? If this is not available is there another alternative??? Thanks for any help...... John
