To RAID or not to RAID
Posted in 1997
We currently have 2 large servers (120+GB and 175+GB). One is OLTP in nature, the other more batch oriented. Both run on equiv. h/w, using ODS 7.23, and table partitioning has been implemented on the OLTP server, and will be on the other. We are reviewing our disk strategy and utilization, and part of this is a look at RAID, and whether or not it may be appropriate. I'd like to hear from those who have done RAID vs. JBOD tests/benchmarks (and the nature of the test), and why you chose the direction you did. (I also know that RAID tends to defeat the purpose of table partitioning/pdq) Can anyone point me in the direction of any tests or benchmarks that have been done???
