Let's hope you chose wisely - there are very few names for which schoolchildren will not be able to make fun of in one way or another. Hamm doesn't seem so bad

By some lucky twist, it was actually converted to a good nickname by the kids in primary school, so I can't complain about that. However, we live in a heavily multi-cultural area, which amongst many others includes a fair percentage of muslim kiddies and probably vegetarian buddhist kiddies (large vietnamese population in this area) so I expect that some smart-arse little snot, given the usual standards of the schoolyard, could easily turn it into verbal abuse that my contemporaries could only dream about. The kiddies considered to be "unclean" (ie boys/girls germs etc) probably suffer the most in school so I think it's reasonable foresight to give him a more mundane name. That and kung fu lessons.
