distributions management

My company does data mining and we have one very large table that we probably insert about 1000,000 records a week into and we never remove records from it. We update stats on this table on a weekly basis, but we do not drop distributions...my question of course is should I be dropping distributions? I know this is basic, but I cant seem to find a definitive rule of thumb in the manuals I have access to. -thanks
