For the performance improvement promised by this technique to be effective the indexes to support an efficient join must exist. If they do not exist performance of the flattened query will likely be very much poorer than the sub-query while if they are available performance will be greatly enhanced. Also UPDATE STATISTICS MEDIUM/HIGH is very important for these queries. Art S. Kagel
