Information About Views

How does Informix handle views. Does it execute the SQL statement everytime someone accesses the view or is the view cached? When you create a SQL statement against a view with a WHERE clause does the view select all the information first then apply your WHERE clause or does it apply the WHERE clause up front? Thanks
