NewEra to exploit Universal Server
Posted in 1996
As NewEra moves into the future, expect to see NewEra continue to exploit capabilities in the INFORMIX-Universal Server in ways that are increasingly easy-to-use, scalable, and extensible. The goal of INFORMIX-NewEra, as it is the goal with the INFORMIX-Universal Server, is to become increasingly content-rich as well and content-aware. No other DBMS vendor can provide this combination of content-richness--through industry standard OLE and OCX controls--and content-awareness--through INFORMIX-Universal Server DataBlade modules. Content-rich means compelling visualization of your data on the desktop--viewing, changing, and creating data through strong interoperability with your industry-standard desktop software. Content-awareness means having a DBMS that can be extended to understand, not just retrieve, the complex data that those desktop applications create. It is this unique synergy between content-richness and content-awareness that can bring compelling differentiation to your applications. With NewEra 3, the team development repository is introduced. As follow-on releases of NewEra occur you'll see increased emphasis put on the development repository for the exploitation of content-rich/content-aware capabilities. Here the developer can define default client-side-specific bindings between their database data and the visual presentation technology used to visually render and manipulate the data. And this can be true not just for the desktop, but will extend out into the Web through Java and HTML interfaces. Charles Dickerson Director of Tools Product Marketing Informix Software, Inc.
