RE: Onbar & Storage Managers

Hi Emilio,
Here are some answers
1) Yes, unless you are using NT with OWS or ODS , Informix has a Storage Manager included " A simple one :) "
2) This funcionality is present in all the storage managers
3) I don't understand what do you mean here. But they communicate to each other
and if you start onbar it will start the communication with the storage manager and
vice-versa.
4) They communicate to each other through the XBSA/interface.

Subject: Onbar & Storage Managers
I am new to the Informix Online and I am trying to provide a way
to manage backup and restore with On-bar. Here are some of the
questions that I have:
Questions:
1) o Do I really need a storage manager (networker, netbackup).
2) o Since onbar is a command line application, is it practical to write a
backup/restore interface around the onbar utility. (I need to provide
scheduled backups capability as well)
3)Does Storage manager or onbar initiate task. Does my application talk
to onbar or the storate manager.
4)If onbar initiates and Storage Manager is merely a background process,
how does storage manager communicate events to onbar, i.e. out of tape,
device is busy, etc.?
Any help is greatly appreciated,
Emilio A. Cacayoren
