Re: Case Sensitive Issues Informix
Posted in 1998
There are two possible "workarounds": 1. Upgrade to version 7.3 of Informix IDS which support this functionality. 2. If an upgrade isn't possible create an extra field in the table that contains the lower (or upper) case version of what you have in the original field used in the order by and like parts of your sql and use this extra field for those purposes while displaying the original field. This does of course require this extra field to be maintained by your application, something that may be some work. However you gain a significant advantage (even with 7.3) in that you can create an index on such a field. A third alternative is of course to upgrade to IDS with Universal Data Option (ver. 9.x of the engine) which also give you the ability to create indexes on functions like upper/lower and any other. This can increase the performance of like as well as order by a lot.
