How long did you wait before you decided it was "hanging"? I have seen
at one of my customers using Informx 7.2x on Windows NT that the
Informix Storage Manager (effectively onbar) first writes a lot of data
(in my case about 200 MB) to temporary disk space and then copies it to
tape.
