Online log monitor

I've often thought (that may be part of the problem!) that a nice utility program (shellscript) would be something that reads the OnLine logs and sends the db administrator email if anything other than "checkpoint complete" and the usual hits the log. Has anyone written anything like this? If not, what do you do? -- Look at your logs on a regular basis? -- See the happy moron, ....................................................
