Beware of this issue everyone. If you set your tapesize to 0
(supported in 9.4) and attempt to use ontape to recover - it aint
gonna work. Theres a bug in the code that keeps track of the number of
records on each tape and if your restore spans across mor than one
tape, ontape will fail because the record/block counts at the end of
the previous tape and beginning of the next will not match up.
A man type friend of mine spent the last 20 hours or so fighting this
issue. Informix support ended up having him dump each tape (30+ gig
worth) to disk and then they altered the pages that keep this record
count data - then he dumped the data back to tape and restored.
Essentially support hacked the tapes, but each tape took about an hour
and a half of fiddling before it was even ready top restore.
Change your tape size to something...anything! While related to a
similar symptom of a bug fixed in UC1 and FC1, this bug is brand new
and support will be working to recreate it their lab soon.
Do you have a case number associated with this issue? Also, which tech
support group is working with the customer?
