Fractional exponents in 4GL

I have an application which requires the raising of numbers to fractional powers (eg 3 **2.7). 4GL seems to always use the intergized exponent so that 3 ** 2.7 = 3 ** 2. Does anyone have a solution for this other than writing a c function? I am using RDS version 4.11UC4. Rick
