roles (groups)

Here is the challenge. I want to use roles in Informix the way you use groups in Ingres, and roles in Oracle. I need to define a slew of users to different groups (who will have different access to different sets of tables). Then, I can grant the table privs to the groups, rather than issuing a slew of grant statements to all the users. The problem is that with Informix, the user has to explicity set his/her role before they can take on the grants given to that role. There does not seem to be a 'default' for the user when they log in.
