Thanks. The archecker utility is a very effective tool for verifying that an archive contains all the pages that it is supposed to, giving some reassurance that it can be used for a successful restore. The trick of lies in the support for it. The tool is for Informix internal use in versions <= 7.2 (though customers with support may request a copy), comes in unsupported form bundled with IDS 7.3, and is to be fully documented and supported in IDS 9.2 (scheduled for later this year.) In that final version, archecker can be used with the Informix Storage Manager (ISM) to verify an archive system--read operations, tape management, page integrity, and more--all while the source system is on line. The more paranoid DBAs among us would still not place 100% trust in this (or any other) archive checker other than actually doing a full archive, disk wipe, restore, and data validation. And even then, I'd be skeptical... ;) _____________________________________________________________ Clem Akins (aka clem@informix.com) Menlo Park x5937 Customer Course Development Manager Informix Software, Inc Last seen: Playing hopscotch with my daughter in SF, CA, USA
