We would use the same for any product tough. As to the application it's up to you and what VM you deploy on. >Informix is recommending Symantec over DDJ. As I have understood it DDJ is going to be integrated with the Symantec tools. I haven't ever understood DDJ fully though. The demos I have seen where not particularly interesting for our purposes. It had it's own "RAD" tool for GUI design that created single tier applications. Informix seem to have some new tool or middlewhare out now but I haven't checked that out either. There are some references to an object access library for Java in the client tool info. You might want to check into that. > Visual Cafe needs middleware >(dbanywhere) that only runs on windows 95/nt. I would prefer no middleware >but if there must be one, it has to run on AIX. We use JDBC for dataaccess - currently the Openlink drivers which works very well so far. They are also available on all interesting platforms, including Linux, and for all interesting databases. As far as I have understood dbanywhere isn't anything but a JDBC driver with some more or less fancy buffering of data at the server level. I believe that any high quality JDBC driver will do some of this. When I checked them out about 1/2 year ago or so the Symantec tools where designed for using dbanywhere directly on the client. We generally want to write multi tier applications so this isn't a model that is particularly interesting for us. Also at the time Symantec also charged a hefty runtime price for the dbanywhere server so I became less than interested. This may have change lately. I do believe however that the Symantec tools and Visual Age for Java are the two best tools available right now for most types of Java programming, and particularly for "standard" database type applications. There are a number of reviews available however so it isn't difficult to find out a lot about the different tools. This is such a fast changing world, it's hard to keep up. >Any feedback would be helpful. >Thanks >Jay Ramadorai >Architect/DBA - iXL Nils Myklebust NM Data AS Norway E-mail: Nils.Myklebust@nmdata.com FAQ at: Primary with ODBC info: http://www.smooth1.demon.co.uk Official site http://www.iiug.org/techinfo/faq/faq_top.html
