Going from Informix to Oracle is a painful experience. Oracle has a collection of old utilities that are clearly cobbled together scraps of code. SQL optimizer analysis is one example utility that Oracle sucks at. Informix has a cleaner architecture that has a better mental model of how things are happening. In my experience, if a goal is performance an Informix installation will achive it easier and scale better than the arcane 'tuning' needed with Oracle. -- --------------------------------------------------------- Steven Hauser, hause011@tc.umn.edu Phone: (612)626-7135 Fax: (612)625-6853 ---------------------------------------------------------
