ANNOYING MESSAGE.....?

Does anyone know.........? I have built a table with several columns that use restricted select and update privileges, ie: "public" may see the entries when using the data entry form, but may not select or update the form's fields for these columns. "public" needs to routinely insert/update any of the other entries to the table, however, and select/update privileges are granted to "public" for all the other columns of the table. HOWEVER, when "public" accesss the table for routine data entry, without touching the restricted fields/columns, an annoying message appear each time a data entry is completed: "permission not granted to allow reading of 'field_name'". This might not be bad if it only happend once per data entry, but the message repeats once for EACH field of the form that is a restricted field/column. Waiting for the "form" to go through 8-10 repeats of this message will slow down our routine data entry work and I would like to know how to turn it off! Informix has tried to help, but so far has not offered any advice other than the possibility of using TWO forms, a "public" one and a "restricted" one, with the "public" form having field attributes set to "noentry", "noupdate". I tried this suggestion, but the form with the attributes set to "noentry", "noupdate" STILL gives the annoying message(s). The message generator is apparently too "dumb" to realize that: 1) the data entry clerk did not even attempt to access the restricted fields/columns, and 2) the form does not allow entry or update to those fields. Any help or advice will be appreciated. Thanks, Jim -- =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Jim Kistler kistler@hp-and.an.hp.com Hewlett-Packard Co.
